Sowing Guide

Early Sowing/Module Sowing

For early blooms sow indoors in March. Sow 3 to 4 seeds in medium to large sized pots, 15 - 25 cm in diameter.
Place in a propagator or clear polythene bag and seal. Germinate at the temperature suggested above.
Once germination has started remove from the bag or propagator and place in a cooler location with good daylight exposure. Protect from hot sun and frost at this stage.
Grow on in a greenhouse or cold frame until the plants are growing strong.
Plant out in mid May, 60 - 70 cm apart when all risk of frost has passed.
Harden off over 7 - 10 days before planting out to reduce shock.

Direct Sowing

Sow direct in April - May in rows 45cm apart where the plants are to flower. The soil should be a fine tilth.
Lightly cover the seeds with fine soil and water well.
When large enough to handle thin to 45 cm apart.

Growing On

Water young plants well until established.
Established plants will need watered regularly especially in dry conditions.

TIP

Dead-head regularly to encourage more blooms to grow.
