Lobelia Cambridge Blue is a very popular, versatile variety producing masses of light blue delicate flowers from June to September. These compact, easy to grow plants are ideal for growing in the summer beds and containers.

Soil Preperation
To help with moisture retention and fertility add a good amount of well rotted manure or compost to the soil. If the soil is a heavy clay add some gritty sand to help with drainage. Remove weeds from the area.

Sowing Guide
Early Sowing/Module Sowing
Thinly sow the seeds on the surface of moist compost in trays, modules or pots.
Lightly firm the seeds into the surface of the compost however do not cover.
Place the container in a clear polythene bag and seal or place in a propagator. Germinate at the temperature suggested above. Do not exclude light as this will aid germination however avoid direct exposure to hot sun .
Once germination has started remove from the bag or propagator and place in a cooler but not cold location. Protect from frost.
When the seedlings are large enough to handle transplant into 7 - 10 cm pots.
Grow on in a frost free greenhouse or cold frame and plant out when all risk of frost has passed and the lobelia's are growing strong.
Harden off over 7 - 10 days before planting out.
Direct Sowing
It is advisable to start the plants indoors rather than sowing the seeds direct.
Growing On
Water the young plants well until established.
Lobelia's will benefit from being fed frequently with a balanced fertilizer over the summer months.
Water established plants well in dry weather as they dislike dry conditions.
If growing in hanging baskets or containers ensure the compost is kept moist.
Lobelia' s dislike dry conditions. If the plants dye back in summer due to drought, cut the plants back by half their size. Add fertilizer and water well. A second flush of flowers should grow again if the soil is kept moist.
