Boy O Boy is a compact dwarf French marigold variety producing a superb mix of shades of double crested flowers all through the summer months up until the first frost. An excellent variety for growing in the front of borders, summer beds, containers and window boxes.

Soil Preperation

To help with moisture retention and fertility add a good amount of well rotted manure or compost to the soil. If the soil is a heavy clay add some gritty sand to help with drainage. Remove weeds from the area.

Sowing Guide

Early Sowing/Module Sowing

Sow the seeds on the surface of moist compost in trays, pots or modules.
Cover the seeds with 3 mm of vermiculite or compost.
Place in a propagator or clear polythene bag and seal. Germinate at the temperature suggested above.
Once the seeds start to germinate remove from the propagator or bag and place in a cooler location with good daylight exposure however protect from frost and direct exposure to hot sun at this point.
When large enough to handle transplant into 7.5 cm pots.
Grow on in a frost free greenhouse or cold frame and plant out when all risk of frost has passed and the marigolds are growing strong.
Harden off over 7 - 10 days before planting out.

Direct Sowing

Sow the seeds direct in April - May in a well prepared seed bed where the plants are to flower, in rows 30 cm apart at the depth of 5 mm.
Water the newly sown seeds well.
When large enough to handle thin to 25 - 30 cm apart.


Growing On

Water newly planted marigolds well until established.
During the growing season the plants will benefit from a weekly liquid feed of a balanced fertilizer.
Established plants will need regular watering especially in dry conditions or if growing in containers.

TIP

Dead-head spent flowers regularly to encourage more flowers to bloom.
