Sowing Guide

Early Sowing/Module Sowing

Sow Pyrethrum seeds in pots, trays or modules.

Place in a clear polythene bag and seal or if preferred place in a propagator.
Keep the sown seeds in the light as this will aid germination, however keep away from strong sun at this point.
When the seeds start to germinate remove from the bag or propagator and locate in an area with good daylight exposure and a reduced temperature. Keep the vulnerable seedlings away from frost.
When the seedlings are large enough to handle transplant the strongest seedlings into individual 7 - 10 cm pots.
Grow on in a cold frame or cold greenhouse.
Plant out into their final growing position when the plants are strong and all risk of frost has passed.
Harden off over 7-10 days before planting out.

Direct Sowing

Sow the seeds directly in a well prepared seed bed in spring where the flowers are to grow once all risk of frost has passed. When large enough to handle thin and transplant to 30 - 40 cm apart.

Growing On

After planting out, water the plants well until established.
Pyrethrum should not need any fertilizer adding as it prefers poor soil.
