200 Seeds.
Other Names - Rock Soapwort, Tumbling Ted…
Saponaria Ocymoides is a mat-forming perennial with mid green leaves 1 cm long. It produces bright pink tiny flowers 1 cm across over the summer months. This plant has a dense vigorous spreading habit and can swamp smaller plants. However if controlled it has an excellent ground covering ability and therefore good for keeping weeds under control. The low growing plants are ideal for growing in the front of borders or for filling gaps in paving.
Suitable For - Gravel or rock gardens, containers, low maintenance gardens, ground cover
Sowing Months - March, September, October
Flowering Months - June - August
To help with moisture retention the plants would benefit from having some organic matter adding to the soil a few weeks before planting. Remove weeds, especially perennial weeds from the area.

Sow Saponaria seeds in pots, trays or modules.
Cover the seeds with a thin layer of compost or vermiculite.
Place in a clear polythene bag and seal or if preferred place in a propagator.
Once the seeds have started to germinate remove from the bag or propagator and position in a location with good daylight and a reduced temperature. Keep the seedlings away from frost.
Once the seedlings are large enough to handle prick out the strongest seedlings into 7 - 10 cm pots.
Keep the plants protected in a cold frame or a cool frost free greenhouse. Plant out into their final growing position when growth is strong. Plant out autumn sowings the following spring after all risk of frost has passed.
Before planting out harden off over 7 - 10 days so the plants can acclimatize to the outdoor temperatures.
For best results start the plants indoors.
After planting out, water the plants well until established.
Cut the plant back hard after flowering to maintain a compact habit and to prevent the plants from self seeding. This will help to prevent it from swamping smaller nearby plants.
