Sow brachycome seeds on the surface of damp but not sodden compost in pots, trays or modules.
Cover the seeds with a light covering of vermiculite or compost.
Germinate in a propagator or if preferred place the container in a clear polythene bag and seal. Do not exclude light as this will aid germination.
Remove the container from the propagator or plastic bag as soon as germination starts. Place in a well lit, cooler location. Avoid direct hot sun and protect from frost.
The compost should be kept moist however not sodden.
When the young seedlings are large enough to handle, prick out into 7 - 10 cm pots.
Water well and place in a frost free location to grow on until strong.
Plant out after all risk of frost has passed.
A sudden change in temperature can easily shock the plants. Harden off over 7 - 10 days before planting out to help reduce shock.
Sow the seeds direct in April or May in a well prepared seed bed where the plants are to flower in drills 35 cm apart.
The soil should be a fine tilth and watered regularly.
When the seedlings are large enough to handle thin and transplant to 25 - 35 cm apart.
Water the newly planted brachycome plants well until established.
To encourage a bushy habit pinch out the growing tips.
Water established plants regularly especially in hot dry weather.
During the flowering season feed with a balanced fertilizer twice.
Trim the plants after a flush of blooms to keep the plants productive over a long season.
