The taste of fresh homegrown calabrese is far superior to shop bought.
It originated from the district of Calabia in Italy where it has been grown there since medieval times. Calabrese is indeed a form of broccoli however unlike broccoli which is winter hardy and harvested during the winter and spring, calabrese is harvested in the summer and autumn as it is not a hardy plant. Confusingly it is often labeled as broccoli by retailers in the UK.
