Salvia Sizzler Series Mixed produces an attractive range of brightly coloured short spikes from deep red, yellow, purple and orange. The long lasting spikes are produced in abundance over a long period and look particularly stunning when planted on mass in summer beds.

Soil Preperation

To help with moisture retention and fertility add a good amount of well rotted manure or compost to the soil. If the soil is a heavy clay add some gritty sand to help with drainage. Remove weeds from the area.

Sowing Guide

Early Sowing/Module Sowing

Sow the seeds on the surface of moist compost in trays, modules or pots.
Do not cover the seeds.
Place in a propagator or clear polythene bag and seal. Do not exclude light as this will aid germination.
Once germination has started remove from the propagator or bag and place in cooler but not cold conditions, protect from direct exposure to hot sun and frost.
Once large enough to handle, transplant the seedlings into 7 - 10 cm pots.
Grow on in frost free conditions in a greenhouse or cold frame is ideal.
Plant out when all risk of frost has passed and the plants are growing strong.
Harden off over 7 - 10 days before planting out.

Direct Sowing

It is advisable to start the plants indoors rather than sowing direct.


Growing On

Water the young plants well until established.
During the growing season water freely and apply a balanced liquid fertilizer ever 4 weeks.

TIP

Remove faded flower spikes to encourage more blooms to grow.
