If growing as an annual (to flower the same year) - sow the seeds on the surface of moist compost in trays, modules or pots in February to April.
Lightly cover the seeds with vermiculite or compost.
Place the container in a propagator or clear polythene bag and seal. Germinate at the temperature suggested above.
Once germination has started remove from the propagator or bag and place in a cooler location. Protect from frost.
Grow on in a frost free greenhouse or cold frame.
Plant out when all risk of frost has passed and the plants are growing strong.
Harden off over 7 - 10 days before planting out.

Direct Sowing

To grow as biennial (to flower the following year in May - July) - sow the seeds thinly in a well prepared seedbed in May - July in 30 cm rows at the depth suggested above. The soil should be a fine tilth.
Water the newly sown seeds well.
If the seedlings are overcrowded thin to 15 cm apart.
Water young seedlings frequently.
In autumn, transplant the seedlings into their final growing position 30 cm apart.

Growing On

Water established plants frequently however avoid overwatering as this can make the leaves turn yellow.
Feed with a balanced fertilizer every 7 - 8 weeks in the growing season.

Dead-head spent blooms regularly to encourage more flowers to grow.
