Sowing Guide

Scatter the seeds as evenly as possible on the surface of the prepared seed bed.
Lightly rake the surface to cover the seeds.
Water the newly sown seeds well.

Growing On

Water the young seedlings well until established.
Established plants need regular watering especially in dry conditions.
Avoid overwatering as trefoil dislikes sodden, waterlogged conditions.
Autumn sowings will survive as small plants over the winter months. Once spring arrives they will start to grow once again.

Digging In

Cut and dig in the plants 2 - 3 months after sowing or anytime before flowering. Autumn sowings will be ready for cutting the following mid to late spring.
Cut with a garden spade, sheers or if the area is large, cut the plants with a strimmer.
Dig in using a sharp spade to the depth of 20 - 25 cm. Or if preferred use a rotovator to incorporate the organic matter.
Avoid growing any vegetables in the soil for at least 3 - 4 weeks after digging in so that the green manure has time to decompose.

TIP

Try growing alongside tall growing vegetables such as beans and sweet corn to help retain moisture in the surrounding soil and to supress weed growth.
