If the soil is a heavy clay add some course grit to the soil to improve drainage. Remove weeds, especially perennial weeds from the area. Work the soil to a fine tilth.

Sowing Guide

Early Sowing/Module Sowing

This variety is best sown direct where the plants are to grow permanently.

Direct Sowing

Sow Briza Media seeds in a well prepared seedbed where the plants are to flower at the depth suggested above. Germination can be very slow. Ensure the soil does not dry out. Once the seedlings are large enough to handle transplant to 25 - 30 cm apart. Water the young seedlings well until established.

Growing On

Avoid adding to much high nitrogen fertilizer as this can effect the quality of the flowers.
Established plants will benefit from being divided in spring.

TIP

Do not dead-head as the spikelet's will gradually transform into straw coloured oat-like seed heads which will add texture and interest to the garden over the cooler months.
