Nigella Oxford Blue produces dark blue delicate flowers with dark green fern-like foliage. The seed pods and flowers can be dried for winter decorations. Excellent for cut flowers .

Sowing Guide

Early Sowing/Module Sowing

Sow the seeds direct where the flowers are to grow.


Direct Sowing

Sow the seeds outdoors in April to May or September to October in drills 30 cm apart in a well prepared seed bed where the flowers are to bloom. The soil should be a fine tilth.
Lightly cover the seeds with soil and water well.
Autumn sowings will produce early flowers the following spring and will need protecting with a cloche over the winter months.
When the seedlings are large enough to handle thin to 20 - 25 cm apart.


Growing On

Water young nigella plants well until established.
Dead-head fading blooms to prolong the flowering season.
Water established plants well in dry conditions.

TIP

In windy and exposed gardens provide twiggy sticks as supports.
